Adoption of Election Results

Once the San Mateo County Election Official has certified the results of the November 3, 2020 election, the final results are transmitted to the City Clerk, who is the Redwood City Election Official. The City Clerk will then submit the certified election results, along with a resolution to adopt the results to the City Council. The City Council is required to adopt the resolution in accordance with California Elections Code 10263, and the City Clerk is required to enter into the minutes a statement of the results. …

Over the past three years, Redwood City and the County of San Mateo have discussed a potential property exchange of two properties in the Inner Harbor area of the City — the City’s 3.29-acre parcel at 1402 Maple Street and the County’s 2.00-acre parcel at 1580 Maple Street.

Counting all the votes

While many ballots are in the County Election Official’s possession on Election Night, California election law allows counting certain ballots that arrive at the County Election Office after Election Day. In order to be eligible for counting, a ballot must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the county within 3 days of Election Day. For the November 3, 2020 election, ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received within 17 days of Election Day are eligible for counting. All eligible ballots must be counted before election results can be certified as “official results”. Get In-Person Assistance at a Vote Center from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

On Election Day, there will be 45 Vote Centers open throughout San Mateo County. Voters can visit any Vote Center in the County to receive assistance. Tools and services available at Vote Centers include accessible ballot marking machines, translation services and facsimile ballots (reference ballots in other languages), in-person voting, curbside ballot drop-off, and Conditional Voter Registration. In-person voting hours on Election Day are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Remember! If you are in line to vote in-person at 8 p.m., remain in line until you successfully cast your ballot. However, voters who are simply returning a vote by mail ballot at a Vote Center on Election Day must do so by 8 p.m. in order for the ballot to be counted. …

City operating revenues expected to drop by $13.1 million this year with economic recovery due to COVID-19 not expected for years, driving need for Revised Budget

On Monday, October 26, 2020 the Redwood City City Council will consider the Revised Fiscal Year 2020–21 Budget. Due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, City revenues are expected to drop 8.1% or $13.1 million compared to Fiscal Year 2019–20 and the City expects that it will take at least five years for revenue to return to the Fiscal Year 2019–20 levels. As a result, the Revised Budget proposes to reduce expenditures by $7.7 million from the Fiscal Year 2020–21 Adopted Budget. When reduced revenues are combined with known increases for retirement benefits for retired and current employees, the City must take action to reduce operating costs and seek new revenues. …

In California, the deadline to register to vote is 15-days before every election; for the November 3 election, the deadline was October 19.
