Ballots have started to arrive! Be on the lookout for your ballot and a postcard from your City Clerk with important information about voting in the November 3, 2020 Election.

This week, Redwood City residents — those who are registered to vote and those who are not — will begin receiving a postcard in the mail with important voter information. Postcards are bilingual (English/Spanish) and highlight important dates and deadlines, new information about Redwood City district elections, and ways to get more information about registration and voting.

Important dates & deadlines

In California, the deadline to register to vote is 15 days before an election — for this election that’s October 19 at 11:59 p.m. To register to vote or update your voter registration, visit registertovote.ca.gov.

If you miss the voter registration deadline, you still have voting options for the November 3 election. Through Conditional Voter Registration, people who miss the voter registration deadline can visit any Vote Center in their County between October 20 and November 3 to complete a registration application and cast a provisional ballot. Once the County confirms your eligibility to vote, your provisional ballot is processed.

For more information about voter registration, visit smcvote.org.

Every registered voter in San Mateo County will receive a ballot in the mail. Ballots can be returned by U.S. mail or in-person at any Ballot Drop Box or Vote Center in the San Mateo County. Find a Ballot Drop Box or Vote Center near you. Track your ballot and sign up for ballot status alerts at whereismyballot.sos.ca.gov.

Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the County Elections office by November 20. Ballots returned in person must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Night.

Remember to sign your return envelope!

Redwood City District Elections

Under Redwood City’s new district elections system, voters will vote for one City Councilmember only — a Councilmember to represent the district they live in. During the November 3 election, voters who live in City Council districts 1, 3, 4, and 7 will vote for a City Councilmember along with all other state and federal contests. Voters who live in districts 2, 5, and 6 will have all state and federal contests, but will not vote for City Councilmember during this election.
