Welcome to the Election Corner! The November 3, 2020 Election is quickly approaching. To help Redwood City prepare to vote, we will begin featuring the Election Corner weekly in our eNewsletter from now until Election Day. Featured posts will offer a deep-dive into a variety of election-related topics.

When Redwood City voters begin to receive their ballots in the mail in early October, they may notice some changes. Under Redwood City’s new district elections system, members of the City Council will now be elected by district instead of at-large. What you need to know about district elections:

  1. Redwood City voters will now vote for only one City Council candidate from their district rather than voting for multiple City Council candidates at-large
  2. Not all Redwood City voters will vote for City Council this election — only voters in districts 1, 3, 4, and 7 will elect a City Councilmember Voters who live in districts 2, 5, and 6 will vote for City Councilmembers in 2022
  3. Ballots will look different depending on where you live — voters in districts 1, 3, 4, and 7 will see their respective City Council contest on the ballot and voters in districts 2, 5, and 6 will not see a City Council contest on the ballot
  4. All Redwood City voters will have all state and federal contests on their ballot
  5. Find out which City Council district you live in by searching your address on our district map tool
  6. It is important to note that while City Councilmembers will be elected by district they will be responsible for representing the interests of all Redwood City residents
